Chemicals: Chewing the tobacco releases the carcinogenic chemicals (at least 28 of them), some of which may be absorbed through the mouth membranes and some swallowed into the stomach. The chemicals affect body (cell)processes and lead to inability for cells to prevent cancer development or to death of the cells themselves. Many mechanisms are involved.
