Yes: But currently we cannot determine which thymomas will behave in a benign fashion and which ones will prove to be malignant so they all need to be removed. Even thymomas that appear to be benign when examined microscopically can later prove to have been malignant when they recur. Patients with thymomas should seek consultation with a thoracic surgeon.
