Multifactorial: Prevention starts in childhood with adequate calcium, vitamin d intake and exercise. Avoid cigarettes, inactivity, excessive alcohol intake, excessive caffeine, sodium, and animal protein. Some medications like Prednisone can weaken bones so avoid excessive use. Exercise and diet are key as well as managing risk factors (family history and health issues).
