Maybe (not) . . .: Shoulder & back pain might be due to positioning. Former may be due to irritation of diaphragm. Regardless, these are questions best asked of your surgeon who should tell you what to expect, who to contact, when to return (sooner), etc. If pain doesn't improve w/rest or suggested pain relievers, best to contact surgeon, especially if fever, sweats, chills, nausea, vomiting etc.

Yes: Gas under the diaphragm can cause pain in the shoulder area. This should go away within 36 hours.
