Yes: Within hours the kid would be deathly ill as germs entered the area and an infection. It is exceedingly difficult to perforate the colon taking a temperature.I can't remember hearing or reading of a case ever in 3 decades. A little petroleum jelly on the thermometer helps it slide in easier.
