Not really: Though rubbing the abdominal wall can be soothing, it does not effect the underlying cause of your abdominal distress. It would take a visit to your physician to determine whether you have a functional type of problem that can be treated with dietary manipulation or a medical condition that requires endoscopic or radiologic testing and then treatment.

Not really: If you have gas and bloating, massaging your stomach may cause you to relax and release some of the gas. Sometimes a warm bath or shower can also help. If you are nauseated, the movement may make your feel more queasy. Try to relax and avoid any heavy foods or excessive fluids until it settles. Sipping on some gatorade or eating a plain cracker may help.
