Usually stops: This occurs in about 5% of patients after cholecystectomy and resolves in more than 90% within 4 to 6 weeks. Can try a low fat diet for now. If it persists your doctor can start you on a bile salt binder named questran (cholestyramine). Discuss with your surgeon at follow up.

Yes: The gall bladder stores and concentrates bile. Without a gall bladder, the bile is continuously excreted into the intestine. This sometimes overloads the ability of the terminal ileum to reabsorb all of the bile that is presented to it. This irritates the right colon which can cause diarrhea. Taking a medicine that binds bile salts can stop this, but try metamucil first.
