Food diary: There are tests we can do for celiac disease (wheat/gluten allergy), and we usually diagnose ibs based on symptoms alone unless there is a red flag like rectal bleeding/fever/pain/weight loss requiring additional testing. However, whether you have a diagnosis or not, if you feel better when you don't eat wheat, don't eat it! keep a diet and symptom diary and see how you feel with different foods.

? celiac disease: Gluten sensitivity is a symptom of celiac disease rather than irritable bowel syndrome. You can avoid wheat if it makes you sick. Regardless of what the tests show, you probably aren't going to want to eat wheat if you are positive it is making you ill. None the less, there are some very helpful blood tests for celiac disease, so if you have health insurance, i think these are worth doing.
