I stopped taking bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) 2 months ago because of a rash on my rear.my doc just prescribed it again. is it likely that ill get a rash this time also?

Drug rash: Did you mention the rash to your doctor from your previous course of bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim)? May be he thinks the rash is not related to the antibiotic. Hard to tell without a good detailed history. If the rash is from the drug, it is very likely you will get it again.

Drug Rash: Allergic reactions to antibiotics can occur. The first are hives. These are raised welts on the skin that can be white or red and will be itchy. They can pop up for a few hours and then disappear. The second type of rash reaction is pinpoint, red and itchy which loses the red color when pressed. An allergic skin rash will be more generalized across the body not just the butt.
