Xanax (alprazolam): Usually being on xanax (alprazolam) for more than 3 to 4 weeks daily can cause psychological and physiological dependence, you have been on xanax (alprazolam) for 18 years thats a long time. Unless there is a compelling reason a taper should be done under strict guidance as risk of panic, anxiety, shakes, seizures can be high.

Dependent: Because now you are dependent on it much like people are dependent on nicotine. You are addicted to it. Now your bodies natural state is to have xanax (alprazolam) in it so when it doesnt get it then it withdraws and freaks out. You have to wean off of xanax (alprazolam) slowly under the supervision of your physician.
