Candy\ tooth decay: My brother had a great idea years ago. He would let his kids eat as much candy as they wanted but only at one sitting and only once per week. It's the amount of time that the candy is in contact with the teeth that causes tooth decay. Therefore limit it as much as possible but once per week regardless of amount is better that constantly all through the week. Sticky candies are worse that chocolate.

Not much: There is no defined amount but the calories in candy can be considerable as well as the effect on dentition and cavities. Best to limit candy for kids for special occasions and as a treat.
