A member asked:

Would a heart attack show up in normal blood work? or is there a specific blood test they do?

Specific tests: To help establish if a patient is having a heart attack we will send blood in the emergency room for various enzymes made in heart cells that are released when the cells are damaged. These are specific tests that are not often part of routine blood work, and won't be abnormal weeks later, only when the damage to the heart is ongoing or very recent.

Request: There are specific tests: troponins and CPK that show enzyme leakage from damaged heart cells. The usual CBC and chemistry panels may not include these.
