A member asked:

Would bleeding happen when taking 800 mcg misoprostol buccally if not pregnant? chills, 1tiny clot, bleeding, cramping. haven't had +pt but fear it.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe: Misoprostol causes smooth muscle contractions and is used in the setting of evacuating a uterus after a miscarriage. Doctors will also use it to 'prep' the cervix for procedures by making the cervix softer after administration, for example, before iud insertion. Because it causes contractions, it can cause bleeding if there's some blood in the uterus. Normal to have chills and/or fever too.
