Not really: Addison's disease is adrenal cortical failure due to injury, ablation or autoimmune disorders of adrenal gland or pituitary gland under-production of acth occurring in all genders & ages. Cah occurs mostly in ashkenazi jews, occurs in women in early to mid-adulthood & results in overproduction of androgens (male hormones). These are different disorders. Is there there research data that confirm a 71 yr. Old person can have addison's and late onset congenital adrenal hyperplesia?
In patients with addison's (high acth) and intermittent ovarian failure (very high FSH at times), could a 1cm pituitary adenoma be hyperplasia from these conditions? If so, do these tumors grow?
Is a fasting DHEA level of 8.7 plus a fasting level (late morning blood collection) of 6.6 just cause for Addisons Disease testing? My endocrinologist is concerned, but 6.6 is still in the normal (albeit low) range.
