Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Sciatica: Sounds like you're describing sciatic which can be caused by ruptured or herniated disk irritating nerve. As long as no muscle weakness or loss of bladder/bowel control, most patients get better in 4-6wks. If pain is too much, acetaminophen, Ibuprofen (or naproxen) & sometimes steroids like Prednisone can help. Xrays & ct scans don't help much. Check out choosingwisely.Org re http://goo.Gl/fuaew8.
