Regrowing dental bone, is it possible?

17 doctors weighed in across 5 answers

Yes: It is possible to stimulate the bone to regenerate missing bone. This is typically a surgical procedure involving artificial or cadaver bone. In some periodontal defects, the body can sometimes regenerate small amounts lost bone if the defects are cleaned and the environment of the defect is kept extremely clean.

If Perio. disease: Consider perio protect. A non-surgical, home based tray system treatment that significantly reduces oral bacteria that cause gum disease & bone loss leading to loose teeth. Patients who consistently, daily use this system can often tighten loose teeth and can re grow bone.

Absolutely!: GBR, or Guided Bone Regeneration, is absolutely possible, in almost any scenario. Some cases are more difficult than others, so cost varies proportionately, but the addition of bone, whether vertically or horizontally, is always possible. Remember, the bones of the jaw are even more important than the teeth. You can add dental implants to jaw bone, but you have to have the bone first!

Bone regrowth: Missing bone can in a sense be regrown with placement of a bone graft which the body they uses as a scaffold to regrow bone in that area. Usually after a few months the graft becomes native bone.

With caveat: Guided bone regeneration is possible under specific circumstances. Please consider seeing a Periodontist, a gum/bone specialist, for state-of-the art treatment. Be especially careful of product claims and treatment claims that sound to good to be true. They are.
