Of course: Boils or abscesses can be exquisitely painful therefore lancing them can be very sore. Best if you leave it to professionals

Boil: boils are painful. It is more painful if it is tense because of pressure from the pus inside . usually will need drainage as the antibiotics will not be that effective in treating the pus as they will not act on the dead tissue ( pus).
