You don't: Generally immobilization after rib fracture is unhealthy and bedrest after rib fracture can be lethal. Individuals with a rib fracture/s should receive multi-modality pain control and be encouraged to walk (ambulate) and deep breath. Incentive spirometer and acapela valve (flutter valve) devices are used to help increase lung expansion and breathing capacity.
