There are a few...: Most studies recommend medication and psychotherapy. Since I am a psychologist, unless the depression is very severe and the person is suicidal, i start with psychotherapy and refer for medication if it is needed later. The meds may take the edge off and allow someone to take advantage of the psychotherapy. There are several antidepressant and a psychiatrist can help you decide which is best 4u.

Depression: Depression may be treated with different classes of antidepressants( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, serotonin-norepineprhine reuptake inhibitors, mood stabilizers, atypical antipsychotics & bupropion. Tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors.Other tx: psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, group or family therapy. Refractory cases- Transcranial
