Unclear: Gabapentin is a class c drug in pregnancy meaning that in animal studies there have been reports of congenital abnormalities, but no human studies have been performed. As with many drugs in this category, if the benefits outweigh the risks continue the drug. Some women avoid taking in 1st trimester but then take in 2nd and 3rd. Talk to your neurologist about other treatment options in pregnancy.
