Progesterone effects: Breast tenderness happens in days before period typically due to effects of Progesterone dominating cycle at that time. Estrogen levels drop just before period and Progesterone effects including swelling, bloating, cramping, diarrhea, painful breasts, mood changes, etc. It's annoying and painful, but one of the trade offs of being a woman.
