Wound vac: You have a sternal nonunion. You may have diabetes. You may have had coronary bypass. Your surgeon may consider a wound vac for noninion or a sternal debridement and repair. A sternerectomy and flap if infection. Discuss the findings with your doctor. The recovery time will vary depending if you can heal and if infection or just nonunion. Be well and eat healthy.

Recovery time varies: Recover time will vary depending on many factors including age, general health of the patient, infection control, smoker or not, blood sugar control, the exact type of procedure, and post-operative and follow up care. Discuss it with your surgeon and get their opinion as to what they feel is a reasonable recovery time for you.
