See GYN: At 49, unless your having unprotected sex, and think you may be pregnant, you may be starting menopause. The upt's are very sensitive and almost as good as a blood test for hcg, however if you see your gyn, that would most likely be included in blood tests for menopause as well. Best wishes.

Hpts very reliable: Blood test can measure pregnancy hormone levels and detect lower levels than hpts. You are most likely perimenopausal and beginning to ovulate less frequently. The home test is likely reliable and would not require checking a blood test.
