Not uncommon: When you have a period your body releases a substance called prostaglandins. This can cause bad cramps and affect your digestive tract including causing nausea and vomiting. Some women get relief by taking anti-prostaglandins such as Ibuprofen at the first sign of their period. Birth control pills can also be helpful.
