What's the outcome of deep venous thrombosis?

No sweat vs death: Untreated, clot travels to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism, which if big enough, will kill you.

Pulmonary Embolism: Dvt usually begins in legs and progresses into pelvis. Clots can then break off and go to heart and get stuck in the lungs. Large pulmonary emboli can be fatal.

Another outcome: Could be nothing, could be a pulmonary embolism (from you can get pulmonary hypertension), could be post thrombotic syndrome. You can decrease you risk of getting post thrombotic syndrome by 50% if you wear 30-40 mm hg, knee high, graduated compression stockings for 2 years after having a dvt.
