Unlikely: Any skin lesion that is new or an old one that changes should be examined by your physician. At your age cancer is unlikely, but nonetheless this should be seen.

Need evaluation: All skin lesions need to be evaluated by trained eye , some one at your age ( 17 ) probably not serious , is true , only after seen by your doctor.

Black lump: It could be but it would be unusual in someone 17 years old. Also usually skin cancer is not painful. However any spot developing on your skin should be checked out. Have your doctor evaluate it.
