Many causes possible: Ocular migraines are very common. Most of the time there are no identifiable triggers. Stress is often implicated. Sometimes things ingested can be related. The list includes: caffeine, decongestant meds, red wines, aged cheeses, artificial sweeteners, nitrates in cold cuts, peanuts, and chocolate.

Ocular migraine: Visual symptoms most commonly bright and zig-zag line are common aura (visual aura) of migraine. It is not real but often called ocular migraine. The visual symptoms affect both eyes on one or both sides of the visual field. It is caused by neuronal activity in the brain before the migraine headache. Real ocular migraine has symptoms affecting only one eye.
