Drugs or disease: Color deficiency that is not inherited can be cause by toxicity from certain medications or conditions that affect the retina and optic nerve. Such conditions include multiple sclerosis and retinitis pigmentosa.

Disease/meds: Heritable and non heritable(acquired) forms exist. The latter include diseases like macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetes, multiple sclerosis alzheimer's, parkonsons, chronic alcoholism, leukemia, sickle cell anemia, & toxicity to certain meds (hydroxychloriquine, amiodarone, digitalis, viagra) or poisons styrene, certain fertilizers.
