Can the blindness caused by diabetes be prevented or treated successfully?

Diabetic Eye Disease: Diabetes can damage the small blood vessels in the retina (the back of your eye), causing leakage of fluid and/or blood. It's very important for diabetics to be seen on a regular basis to rule this out. If there is vision loss from diabetes this can often be treated to stabilize the vision, but the vision loss is often permanent.
