My mother has blepharitis. what is it in a nutshell?

Inflammation of lids: Marginal blepharitis is common and due to abnormalities of secretions from the meibomian glands of the eye. Sometimes secondary infections, often with staph may complicate this condition. Blepharitis may unfortunately be chronic and recurrent.

Inflammation lids: Blepharitis is a kind of dandruff of the eyelids and lashes. It features a scaly dry deposit on the lashes and adjacent skin with itchy bacterial overgrowth underneath. The lids itch, can be red, lashes may fall off and occasionaly the lids are crusted with dry secrtions. Treatment is to clean off the deposits and apply a steroid antibiotic combination a couple times per day for a while.
