Don't smoke: Chew two aspirins when it happens, control your blood pressure, cholesterol, eat healthy and exercise. Then, no matter the cause, you will have done your share. I would also drink a glass of cold milk and try antacid when it happens. Maybe your stomach acting up. Have you visited a dentist for tmj? How is your neck and mid-back? Any family history of heart problems? Anxiety?

Could be : Musculoskeletal pain which can be quite intense. See your md for an evaluation for proper diagnosis and medications. Additionally if TMJ symptoms persist then follow up with your dentist. Hope this helps.

Atypical chest pain: Have you considered reflux. This can cause atypical chest pain. Also you need to rule out anxiety. This can also cause chest pain. Good luck.

TMJ doc: Most important thing is to work with your MD on the chest pain. Rule out TMJ problem by getting evaluation from TMJ doc. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
