Yes: Simple boil can be treated with cephalexin. If it is not responding very well or if it is getting worse, it is either the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic or there is pus that needs to be drained

See below: Most boils are caused by staphylococcus aureus. To be sure you need to do a culture. The primary treatment of an abscess is drainage. Antibiotics are an adjunct. Keflex(cephalexin) will treat methicillin sensitive s. Aureus(mssa) it will not treat MRSA which is always resistant to it.
