Canker sores: Canker sores, also called recurrent aphthous stomatitis, usually occur in the mouth on the tongue, cheeks and inside of the lips. They may be caused by trauma such as biting the area, stress, and herpetic viral infections. They can occur singularly or in groups. They usually heal on their own in 5-7 days. Applying orabase ointment (no rx needed) can help alleviate the pain. Check with you dentist.

Kenalog (triamcinolone) in Orabase: Is one that requires a prescription. There are many otc remedies for canker sores that you can get at your local pharmacy. Ask the pharmacist which one he\she recommends. Most patients just avoid spicy and acidic foods and wait it out. Rinsing with salt water and diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide (1:1 with water) may help. If need be, you can see your local dentist for more effective treatment.
