Avoid: Lice aw caught from other people. Wash clothes on hot water and if you re infected you must. E treated with prescription product which kills lice such as Elimite (permethrin) or knell. Bedding should also be washed in hot water.

Avoid contact: The best prevention is to avoid touching anyone who has them. Those already infested need treatment with one of several topical or oral medications; see a doctor.
