A member asked:

If a couple is found to have hpv by the presence of genital warts, what are the steps they have to take?

Get treated: Both get treated same time , get rid of hpv virus from the body same time, which causes genital cancers , and to use condoms (no guarantee that it will prevent reinfection from the partner ) discus with your doctor , and also find out female partner is still a candidate for quadrivalent vaccination and both hope to get rid of the virus for good.

Treat the warts: Treatment can clear the warts but is not likely to clear the virus. If you have sex with others you may transmit the virus even if your warts are gone. If you limit sex to each other for the future you will not ping-pong the virus since you both already have it. The woman should have regular exams to prevent cancer of cervix.
