Epi or subdural blee: By far this is most commonly caused by a blow to the end. The only predisposing factor would be a bleeding or blood clotting problem, such as hemophilia, a patient on blood thinners, frequent Aspirin intake.

Trauma: There are 2 main types of bleeding outside the brain: subdural and epidural hematomas. Epidurals are almost exclusively due to trauma, usually a strong force to the side of the head. Subdurals are most often traumatic, but the trauma can be quite minor, especially in the elderly. Patients on blood thinners are at high risk for a small bleed becoming catastrophic.
