Infection: Having a brain abscess meanse having a circumscribed infection or bacteria or fungus in a part of the brain. People can manifest with confusion, fever, headache, vomiting, or seizures. Once this is diagnosed, it usually requires hospitalization in order to start IV antibiotics and to identify the specific organism(e.g. Bug) causing the infection.

May need surgery: A brain abscess is a collection of pus in a contained area of infection within brain tissue. It comes from infections in teeth, sinuses or ear structures in about 1/3 of cases, is usually due to different bacteria at one time. Antibiotics are necessary, but if the abscess is in a reachable area your local neurosurgeon will want to drain it entirely. Very small one may respond to antibiotics.
