STD: Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by a type of bacteria called chlamydia trachomatis. It is the most common bacterial STD in the US. There can be vaginal discharge or burning w/ urination but often w/o symptoms. Because it can lead to serious pelvic infection (PID) &silently damage fallopian tubes & affect fertility, sexually active women under age 25 should be screened.
