Klonopin (clonazepam): It is an anxiety medication of the benzodiazepine group, not a narcotic.

No -- benzodiazepine: These days, the word "narcotic" refers to opiates -- medicines related to opium such as morphine, codeine, oxycontin, dilaudid, etc. Years ago, some grouped all medicines which could be mind-altering, sedating, and addictive under the term "narcotic." this confused the issue! Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine -- entirely different class from opiates/narcotics.

No: Clonazepam is correctly termed a 'benzodiazepine'. It is a class IV scheduled drug, and although it does have abuse potential, it is not a narcotic since it does not act on opioid receptors in the brain.
