Taken at bedtime: It will usually (but not always because we are all different) induce sleep. It is not a healthy choice for this, however.

Yes: Alcohol is a very good way to make someone sleep but after a few hours of metabolism your body is awakened. It us best to not drink 2-3 hours before bedtime. Alcohol can also worsen sleep apnea.
