Depends: The answer to that question depends on exactly what is causing the swelling. It is important to see your eye doctor right away to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.

Swollen eyelids: The treatment for a swollen eyelid is dependent on the cause of the swelling. An infection (like a stye) is treated with warm compresses and at times, antibiotics. Allergic changes often respond to cold compresses and anti-histamines. Typically the swelling will get better on its own, but if it doesn't or you have severe symptoms, then see your ophthalmologist.
