Right dose: Assuming you are being treated for a mild to moderate c diff infection, 125mg liquid dosing is indicated. Higher doses are used in patients with more severe forms of c diff infections.

Antibiotic onset: All antibiotics help our immune system attack infections. Vanc is a 'static' antibiotic meaning it inhibits growth of bacteria. Some are 'cidal' (cause bacteria to die). Onset depends on how well we also control the infection. Is drainage needed, does foreign material need to come out, is there a clot or valve infection that needs surgery? Look for improvemt in 48hrs; if not investigate more.

IV vancomycin: It is given slowly to give less discomfort, to give less injury to the vessel wall and thus prevent the antibiotic from going into the tissues and causing damage.
A 50-year-old member asked:

Antibiotic effects: Well this depends on 'what' type of infection you're treating, since vancomycin can be used for any number of infectious diseases. Your doc should be able to answer this question -so I would encourage you to call if you have questions. Particularly because sometimes antibiotics don't work -so if you have this question in your mind, I think you need to speak up. Health tap docs would need more info
