It rarely is: Graves' dz causes upper lid elevation, leading to the classic "graves dz stare." then if untreated, leads to protrusion of the eyeballs (which can cause blurriness from drying of the eyes). Lastly, it can lead to restrictions of eye muscle movements leading to double vision. In rare, untreated, cases can cause blockage of blood vessels or the optic nerve, but that is rare.
