It rarely is: Graves' dz causes upper lid elevation, leading to the classic "graves dz stare." then if untreated, leads to protrusion of the eyeballs (which can cause blurriness from drying of the eyes). Lastly, it can lead to restrictions of eye muscle movements leading to double vision. In rare, untreated, cases can cause blockage of blood vessels or the optic nerve, but that is rare.

Exophthalmos: Classic graves disease case protruding eyeball anteriorly out of the eye socket, this called exophthalmos. Besides dyscomfort, cause corneal dryness and demage. In very advanced case can cause compression of the optic nerve or ophthalmic artery, which can affect the patient's eyesight.
