An urgent issue: If you're having a hard time getting off of it on your own, discuss it with your regular doctor. (s)he may refer you for counseling and prescribe medications such as Clonidine to ease the withdrawals. You can also consult an addiction medicine specialist who will tailor a treatment plan that meets your goals (e.g. Outpatient, residential, inpatient, detox, maintenance, buprenorphine). Good luck.

Do you need it?: If you really need an opiate for pain relief then discuss Modafinil with your doctor. It is not approved for relieving sedation from other meds. It is for sleep disorders causing daytime sleepiness. However it has many off label uses. Also it is very expensive. Stimulants may be a consideration but then you are on another potentially addictive med. You really need a pain specialist who knows meds.
