No usually: Short courses of steroids are preferred to longer courses. The most common side effects are mood swings, stomach upset, water retention and increase appetite. The adverse side effect that is very uncommon but bad is aseptic necrosis of the hip (decreased blood supply). Some people have "psychosis" but this is uncommon.
