Somewhat, yes: What you're describing is called "palpitations" and it means an uncomfortable awareness of your own heartbeat. Sometimes the heart just tosses in an extra beat or two, and sometimes it can go on and on in what we call a "tachycardia." these do not generally kill or hurt the patient, with very rare exceptions.
