A member asked:

Is lettuce full of bacteria if not cooked?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Who cooks lettuce?: There are rare outbreaks of pathogenic e coli from lettuce, but it's so widely consumed raw that it would seem reasonable simply to wash it. You can't spend your life terrified of food-borne illness -- just be prudent.
