A member asked:

Have occasional shooting pains up the back of my neck to base of my ear-left side. recent onset. no other symptoms.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Need eval: Very difficult to assess without more info. Spasms of the trapezius muscle could be a cause. But then there may be underlying arthritis in neck or pinched nerve. Infection can also cause these type of symptoms or just basic headache variant. Best to go see doctor to be sure nothing more concerning is going on.
