Type of obstruction: Chronic bronchitis is a type of obstructive lung disease. It is characterized by cough and sputum production for approximately 100 days out of the year (not necessarily consecutive days). Usually the patient has shortness of breath and purulent secretions.

COPD...: Chronic bronchitis is a form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. There is no cure but treatments are available to control symptoms. It is usually due to smoking so smoking cessation is also necessary. Your doctor can help with all of this. Good luck!

Don't smoke. Allergy: Do not smoke if you have been. Make sure allergies are not a confounding issue. You probably should have pulmonary function tests, pre/post bronchodilator. See your pcp!

Treatment...: Chronic bronchitis is a form of copd. If you are still smoking, you need to quit. Treatment includes bronchodilator and steroid inhalers as well as oxygen therapy, if your oxygen level is low. You need to see your doctor for treatment as other treatment depends on your symptoms. There is no cure and it is a slowly progressive disease so see your doctor.
