Rarely dangerous: Your symptoms sound like urticaria with angioedema, that is, chronic hives with swelling of the lips or mouth. This condition is mostly a nuisance, but very rarely can cause difficulty breathing if the swelling is in the back of the throat. You should see an allergist--they can help determine if there is a preventable cause (like an allergy to foods, insect stings, etc.) and recommend treatment.
